Samantha Husmann presents work at the 236th ECS Meeting in Atlanta, United States of America. Her talk is entitled “Sulfidation of electrospun vanadium oxide fiber mats for lithium-ion battery electrodes”

Welcome our new PhD student Lei Wang! Being a CSC scholar, he will explore Faradaic materials for electrochemical water treatment.

Yuan Zhang and Volker Presser present work at the German-Japanese Symposium on the Development and Technology of Carbon Materials of the German Ceramic Society in Würzburg, Germany. Volker Presser’s talk is entitled “Next-generation cell concepts for capacitive deionization using carbon electrodes” and Yuan Zhang’s talk is entitled “Electrochemical stability of sodium chloride in H2O and D2O in nanoporous carbon”.

Welcome new student intent Kathleen Frisella from Oregon State University. Being enrolled in the ATLANTIS program, she will be supporting our research on next-generation desalination technologies.

Volker Presser gives a seminar talk at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland, entitled “Nano design of electroactive materials to store energy and desalinate water”.

Pattarachai Srimuk has successfully defended his thesis entitled “Faradaic electrode materials for next-generation electrochemical water desalination”. Read his thesis online!

Welcome visiting PhD student Smita Talande! She will be exploring electrochemical materials for energy storage and comes from the Palacký University Olomouc in the Czech Republic.

Volker Presser gives a seminar talk at University of Manchester, UK, entitled “Capacitive deionization unchained”.

Volker Presser gives a seminar talk at Lancaster University, UK, entitled “Nano design of electroactive materials to store energy and desalinate water”.

New paper published in Carbon on the synthesis and electrochemical application of carbon spherogels. This work was in collaboration with the group of Nicolas Hüsing (spearheaded by Michael Elsaesser) at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, Austria.

Aura Tolosa presents work at the 14th International conference on materials chemistry (MC14) in Birmingham, UK. Her talk is entitled “One-pot synthesis of electrospun hybrid fibers as binder-free electrodes for lithium-ion batteries”.

New paper published in Sustainable Energy & Fuels on titanium niobium oxide / carbon hybrids and composites. Our work demonstrates that well-designed metal oxide / carbon interfaces are of high importance as well as careful phase analysis; it is not suitable to generalize statements like “hybrids are always better than composites”.

New paper published in Carbon comparing pore structure models of nanoporous carbons obtained from small angle X-ray scattering and gas adsorption. This work was accomplished in collaboration with Montanuniversität Leoben (Oskar Paris & Christian Prehal).

Welcome new PhD student Mohammad Torkamanzadeh! Mohammad did his Master at University of Twente and will be working on electrochemical desalination via 2D materials.

New paper published in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Energineering on the use of iodide redox electrolytes for high performance electrochemical desalination. Our work explores the use of ceramic cation exchange membranes to overcome the limited permselectivity of polymeric membranes.
